Admissions
Thank you for visiting our website to find out about our school!
Choosing the right school for your child is one of the biggest decisions any family can make. Whether you are about to send your child to school for the first time, or moving into the area, we feel it is extremely important for you to actually come and look around our school and see the school ‘in action’ for yourself, and find out for yourself what we have to offer.
If you would like to visit, please contact us to make an appointment. There are lots of ways you can contact us:
- Visit the school office to arrange a visit;
- Phone us on 01392 255569, or
- Contact us via email on stdavids@ventrus.org.uk
All admissions to the school are handled by Devon County Council’s School Admissions Team. They can be contacted by: Phone: 0345 155 1019, or Email: admissions@devon.gov.uk Website: http://www.devon.gov.uk/admissions
Starting Primary School – for the first time
Children can start at St David's in the September following their fourth birthday. Applications can be completed online and full details can be accessed from the school admissions page of the Devon County Council website (http://www.devon.gov.uk/admissions). This process usually closes in mid January. If there are enough places, then everyone who applies will be offered a place. We have arrangements in place in case we are over-subscribed with criteria to prioritise applications if necessary. These criteria can be found in our Admissions Policy below.
Is your child due to start school in September 2025?
If your child is due to start school in September 2025, we will be holding some open events during the autumn term 2024.
Open evening: Wednesday 27th November
Open morning: Friday 29th November 2024
“The First Step” booklet explains the admission arrangements for infant and primary schools and is published by Devon County Council. It is available online and in paper format from The School Admissions Team, County Hall, Topsham Road, Exeter EX4 2QG.

Starting Primary School – In Year
Children may need to move school for a variety of reasons and at differing times during the school year. They may have moved into the area from another part of the country or abroad, moved from elsewhere in Devon, or perhaps be seeking a transfer of school for another reason. Parents must apply online http://www.devon.gov.uk/admissions .The same criteria will be used if we need to prioritise applications for a place at the school outside of the normal Reception admissions round.
If your child is successful in securing a place, we will encourage your child to visit our school before they start and if possible to have a 'taster day' in their new class.
If you have any questions, please contact the school or Devon’s education helpline on 0345 155 1019. Alternatively, you can find further information and information leaflets are available online from www.devon.gov.uk/admissions
